On Bank Holiday Monday August 2nd Near90fm, as part of our Sound and Vision funded series Summer in St Annes, broadcast a live performance from renowned trad innovators Kila.

The music soared from the old walls of the Red Stables in St Annnes Park and Near90fm captured the entire 75 minute set between 2pm-3.15pm. Rossa and Eoin from Kila were also on hand to talk to Noel McGuinness behind the desk on the day. 

Crowds of people flocked to see the gig and the atmosphere was very friendly as Kila played a masterly set which included tracks form their album Gamblers' Ballet. For more on Kila visit www.kila.ie

The Rose Festival celebrates the Annual international Rose Trials held in the Park. The Trials are held on the Friday before the weekend festival. The Festival is a family event - with music, horticultural lectures and fun events together with craft stands and plant sales, food stalls and a farmers market

George Mulcahy and Debbie McMahon speak with Annie McDonagh, Anne McDonnell, and Aoife Cooke about the celebration and display of work completed this year by the St Margaret’s Women’s Group. Aoife Cooke also talks about the lauch of a new booklet called ‘Traveller Traditions.’ We also hear a poem read by Cecilia McDonnell about the hardships of living as a Traveller. Near90FM celebrates Gay Pride this week with the launch of its first Gay radio content programme, QueerFM, broadcasting the day after their appearance in this years Pride Parade.  Presenters David Hawk and Donna Kelly will be co-hosting the programme that will cover a wide range of issues that affect the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender community.  "This is a groundbreaking event" commented David Hawk, "and I'm pleased that Near90FM, with its history of service to the community, is the station to host Dublin's first regular gay radio programme."

UPDATE - Near90FM breaks new ground as the first community radio station to take part in Dublin Pride.

This year, Near's new gay radio programme (QueerFM) presenters Donna Kelly and David Hawk, will be joined by other NEARFM presenters as they take part in the annual gay pride parade, where they will be broadcasting live along the parade route while promoting their new programme due to air the following day at 5:30pm. The live broadcast starts at 13.30 this Saturday.

 

Senator David Norris on Curtain Up

Last Saturday's 'Curtain Up' featured an interview with Senator David Norris and a panel discussion on James Joyce.
